Will there be a DQ movie? A TV show?
No, and no, at least not at the moment. Sorry. For one thing, the average American movie costs tens of millions of dollars, which is a bit more than what I can dig out of the lint trap. If you have fifteen million dollars and a real yearning to see D.J. Schwenk on the big screen, drop me a line. I’m sure we can work something out.
There was some talk of a Dairy Queen television series. Unfortunately, it didn’t make the final cut because D.J. Schwenk isn’t quite mainstream enough for the networks. Which is why we love her, but still.
On the other hand, who needs television? In 2007 Browns River Middle School of Jericho, Vermont, wrote and staged “Dairy Queen: The Play,” and I, so luckily, got to watch! Here are my terrible photographs of the wonderful production.
I recently finished your book Dairy Queen. I love it and it was the first book that I've read in a long time that I actually
enjoyed. I don't know if you've ever thought I this, but when I finished the book, I though that it would be an incredible movie filled with love, compassion, comedy and sports. I would love to be DJ, because she relates
to me in so many ways. I am about her age, play sports all the time and never think that boy would even look at me.

That’s Emily, the brilliant eighth grader who wrote and directed the play. She’s also one heck of a baker.
“Brian” asks for a drink of water. The actor had laryngitis, poor guy.
Between scenes, three dancing cows entertained the audience. See what I mean by brilliant?
A John Deere tractor cake, with accompanying cow cupcakes. Clarissa baked and decorated these herself.
