The Real Me
The Real Me

This is my favorite photograph of me ever. Oh, there are some snapshots from back when we were kids, but this my favorite of me as a grownup. For the record, it was not staged in any way. My husband and I were on vacation in Rome some years ago, and he turned around and caught me doing what I do best. Depending on your point of view, Catherine Murdock the tourist is 1.) instructive, 2.) engaging or 3.) insufferable. Sometimes all three at once. You see, as far as I'm concerned one should never travel without at least one copy of the Michelin Guide and one extremely detailed street map. And use them as often as possible, preferably at the same time, while your traveling companions roll their eyes but admit later, grudgingly, that the shortcut you found really was interesting.

This may be my favorite photograph ever – although I got my first camera only ten months ago, so that's not saying a lot. It's not even an official camera, just an iPhone. Pathetic, I know. Anyway, a few days ago I was wandering around taking pictures as a long-overdue favor for a friend, and my sister's kitten Millie decided she just HAD to help.

I am just a teensy bit obsessive as a gardener, and far prefer it to most other activities, including sleep. Here's what I look like after a couple of hours outside.
